The Institute’s main goal is best described by its founders Ivo Frangeš, Zdenko Škreb, Josip Torbarina and Aleksandar Flaker: “to improve the methodology of literary scholarship, engage in literary theory, actively endorse the development of young scholars, influence the quality of education and tackle different issues of national, general and comparative literature”. Comparative and interdisciplinary research is endorsed by the Institute’s scientific projects and cooperation with other departments at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, other scientific and educational institutions in Croatia (in Zadar, Osijek, Rijeka and Pula) and colleagues from other countries (Russian Federation, Hungary, US, Germany, and other European countries).
