Projects

1. Institute’s project entitled Literary Criticism in 21st century: Perspectives of Interdisciplinary Development received funding for short-term research activities by University of Zagreb. The project co-financed the conference Theorizing Myth, Trauma and Memory in Central and East European Cultural Spaces and the conference proceedings volume Myth and Its Discontents | Mythos und Ernüchterung. Memory and Trauma in Central and Eastern European Literature | Zu Trauma und (fraglicher) Erinnerung in Literaturen des zentralen und östlichen Europa (eds. Danijela Lugarić, Milka Car, Gabor Tamas Molnar), Praesens Verlag (2017).

2. During the past ten years, the Institute has successfully cooperated with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest), continuing the tradition started by M. Beker, A. Flaker and V. Žmegač. This cooperation has recently been renewed by D. Oraić Tolić and E. Kulcsár Szabó and is continued by young scholars. In the period from 2002 to 2019 the Institute published five symposium proceedings, one group of articles in the journal Umjetnost riječi and organized six international conferences:

Two of the anthologies published in Croatia met with great critical acclaim: Kulturni stereotipi. Koncepti identiteta u srednjoeuropskim književnostima (ed. D. Oraić Tolić, E. Kulcsár Szabó), which encouraged more intensive imagological research in Croatian humanities, and Imaginacije prostora. Centri i periferije – metropole i provincije u književnostima i kulturama Srednje Europe (ed. D. Oraić Tolić, E. Kulcsár Szabó), which focuses on one of the most prominent theme in contemporary humanities – the spatial turn. In 2008 an anthology of articles by prominent Croatian scholars was published by the international publisher Braumüller under the title Kultur in Reflexion Beiträge zur Geschichte der mitteleuropäischen Literaturwissenschaften (ed. E. Kulcsár Szabó, D. Oraić Tolić). In 2017. the Institute published the conference proceedings volume Myth and Its Discontents | Mythos und Ernüchterung. Memory and Trauma in Central and Eastern European Literature | Zu Trauma und (fraglicher) Erinnerung in Literaturen des zentralen und östlichen Europa (eds. Danijela Lugarić, Milka Car, Gabor Tamas Molnar), Praesens Verlag (2017).

3. The Institute of Literary Studies also cooperates in the four-year project Neomythologism in the culture of 20th and 21st century (project coordinator: Jasmina Vojvodić, PhD, 2014-2018) and three-year project  Ekonomski temelji hrvatske književnosti (project coordinator: Maša Kolanović, PhD, 2017-2020) funded by the Croatian Science Foundation. Danijela Lugarić Vukas’s researches is framework of these projects are expected to contribute to the comparative understanding of similarities and differences between Soviet (Russian) and Yugoslav (Croatian) literatures and cultures.

4. In 2015., Danijela Lugarić was the co-organizer of the conference The Future(s) of Post-Socialism at the Post-Socialism Research Institute (Stony Brook University, USA). Conference proceedings with contributions by J. Bogojević, H. DeHaan, D. Ost, M. Kolanović, D. Kotz, S. Potkonjak, R. A. Saunders, I. Silova, O. Shevchenko, N. Škrbić-Alempijević, J. Timotijević, and Afterword by G. Marker were published under the title The Future of Post-Socialism by SUNY Press (2018).

5. Danijela Lugarić Vukas is a researcher at the project Russian Literary Transformations from 1990 to 2020 (PI: Jasmina Vojvodić, PhD, 2021-2025), funded by the Croatian Science Foundation.
